How to vote

Voting this year will take place online. This is a big change for the Union and it has been carefully considered by the Students’ Union executive committee and Student Council, and passed by both of these bodies.

The idea behind switching to e-voting is that more of our membership have the chance to vote, particularly part-time, commuting, postgraduate and partner college students who do not have easy access to the Preston campus where traditionally the election action happens.

E-voting is simple to do. On Monday April 14 you will receive an email containing a link to the voting area and your unique security code. Clicking the link will take you to a new window where you will need to enter your security code.

Once you’ve clicked to proceed you’ll be taken to a screen containing two options - Student Affairs Committee and Student Council. These are the two different types of positions. Student Affairs Committee contains five positions, including President. These are full-time sabbatical officer roles. Student Council contains one position, the Black Students Rep. These are voluntary roles.

Clicking on either the Student Affairs Committee or Student Council option will take you through to a new screen. You can read information about the candidates by clicking on their name, please take a moment to do this as it contains details of what the candidates want to do when if elected.

Below will be four boxes, first, second, third and fourth preference. Clicking the box will activate the list of candidate names, simply place the candidates in the order you’d like to vote for them. You do not have to fill all the boxes.

Once you are happy with your decision then click next. You will be asked to confirm your decision - think carefully as it’s the last chance you’ll have to change your vote!

If you confirm your vote you will be taken through to the next position that is up for grabs, follow what’s above and vote for that position.

If you do not want to vote for a position then you will have the option to skip.

All votes must be cast by midnight on Thursday April 18.
