The Activities and Participation officer (APO for short) was previously the Recreations officer up until 2006. The name was changed the reflect the move away from simply a sports based role. The APO works closely with the two permanent staff in the Student Involvement and Development office to make sure that clubs and societies have the support they need to function.

As this role adapts it’s becoming increasingly focussed around student involvement, including volunteering and the development of projects such as Give It A Go which develop activities that appeal to a diverse range of people not previously involved in the Union.

Candidates for this role are expected to have strong leadership skills, be good decision makers and expect to work long hours but achieve some very positive results on major projects such as Give It A Go.
